What is the Turf-Rebate Kit — Utah Edition?
The Utah Turf-Rebate Kit is a high-altitude, cold-hardy seed blend designed for Utah homeowners replacing traditional bluegrass lawns under local water district incentive programs. Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District and Weber Basin Water Conservancy District both operate active turf replacement rebate programs — this kit provides a permanent, low-water lawn alternative compatible with those programs' plant requirements.
The three-species blend is engineered for Utah's specific climate combination: Zone 5–6 cold winters, hot dry summers, alkaline Wasatch Front soils, and the high-altitude growing conditions found throughout Utah's populated valleys. Sheep Fescue is the key differentiator — a cool-season native grass that adds cold hardiness and partial shade tolerance beyond what warm-season-only mixes provide in Utah's climate.

How to Use the Turf-Rebate Kit — Utah Edition
Site Prep
Remove all existing bluegrass or turf completely. Utah soils are typically alkaline and may be heavily compacted from years of sod.
Till 2–3 inches, break surface crust, and add compost if soils are dense clay. The Wasatch Front has some of the most challenging soils for establishment — do not skip the soil prep step.
Seeding
Establishment
Water twice daily for 2–3 weeks after seeding. Utah's low humidity and high-altitude UV intensity mean soil moisture evaporates quickly — consistent watering during germination is critical.
Reduce to deep, infrequent cycles as coverage builds. Full establishment typically takes 60–100 days, with Sheep Fescue often establishing faster than Buffalograss in Utah's cooler valley temperatures.
