Prepare the Site
Pick a sunny spot and clear away weeds and existing grass. Loosen the top inch or two of soil so seed makes good contact. A clean, weed-free bed is the single biggest factor in a strong cutting stand.
Sow the Seeds
Mix the seed with a little dry sand to help spread it evenly, then scatter over the prepared bed at about 1 lb per 2,000 sq ft. Sow at the right time for this mix (see the FAQ above).
Press, Don’t Bury
These seeds need light to germinate. Rake lightly or press the seed into the surface for good soil contact, but don’t cover them deeply — no more than 1/8 inch.
Water and Harvest
Keep the seedbed evenly moist until seedlings establish. Once flowering, cut in the cool of the morning and harvest often — regular cutting keeps cut-and-come-again varieties blooming.
