Hello all!
My name is Corryn La Rue and I am from a little town in California named Templeton. I moved to Utah in August of 2015 to attend Utah State University. I am dual-majoring in Agriculture Communications and Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcast, and also minoring in Animal Science. I love Utah State University and I am so glad I got the opportunity to study here! I am scheduled to graduate in four years, on time, in May of 2019.
I was born and raised in Templeton, California which is nestled into a rural little community along the central coast. I have been heavily involved with agriculture my entire life. I was very active in 4-H and in FFA, and always knew I wanted to do something involving agriculture when I grew up. Ever since I was little, I have always had the opportunity to be proactive in the agriculture industry, whether it was raising livestock, showing livestock, maintaining a garden, all the way up to helping maintain my high schoolโs โSchool Farm.โ I was always better at communicating about agriculture, holding leadership positions in 4-H and FFA, and also competing in local, regional and state-wide competitions. I have always planned on attending a four year university, and am so glad I am able to!
Personally, I have many goals and aspirations in the agriculture industry. At the end of the day, my main goal is to educate the general public, or the consumer, about agriculture in a truthful, consistent manner. I believe that the general population who may not have a background in agriculture still deserves to know where their food comes from and how it is made. I also believe that the farmer growing and producing our food is very busy, and doesnโt have the time or maybe the training to communicate with individuals from all over our nation. This is where I step in. As an agriculture communicator, it is my job to find and research pretty much anything and everything pertaining to the agriculture industry and be able to communicate it to the rest of the nation in a way that they would understand. It is important for me to do this because sometimes, our farmers canโt. They make up only less than one percent of our country, after all. That means that today, the average American farmer feeds about 155 people worldwide (farmersfeedus.org.) Thatโs incredible!
My goal is to bring the readers of this blog the most accurate information pertaining to seed varieties, plant sciences and anything that relates to Natureโs Seed. I find it very important to provide correct, truthful information in an ethical and timely manner. After all, I am a journalist major as well! Once again I am so excited to be taking over this blog and I hope you are too! Check in again next week to see my weekly blog post.
Letโs get to growing,
Corryn
