Planting Guide
Time it right (California)
Sow in fall after the first cool, rainy pattern (Oct–Dec statewide; through Feb in mild/coastal areas).
Prep the site
Clear weeds/grass; loosen top 1–2 in only; ensure the top few inches are moist. Avoid soggy, poorly drained areas.
Sow + set the seed
Mix seed with dry sand/vermiculite for even spread.
Broadcast, then rake very lightly—keep small seeds at the surface; press for firm seed-to-soil contact. Bury large seeds (lupines) no deeper than ~1/4″.
Water to establish
Let seasonal rains do most of the work; supplement during dry spells to keep soil lightly moist until seedlings size up (4–6 weeks), then back off.

When should I plant in my part of California?
Fall is ideal statewide—sow after the first rains and cool temps. Coastal/mild zones can sow through winter (to Feb).
Can I overseed into an existing lawn or weeds?
You’ll get poor results. Remove or suppress existing vegetation and prep the top 1–2″ for best establishment.
How much area does one 0.5-lb bag cover?
About 1,000 sq ft at a dense display rate (our recommendation for quick impact).
Will it reseed and return?
Yes. Annuals typically reseed; perennials like yarrow and blue-eyed grass persist. Leave seed heads until they shatter, then cut or mow once dry if desired.
Is it safe for pets or livestock?
Many ornamentals are not edible. California poppy contains alkaloids—treat as toxic if ingested and prevent grazing/chewing. Always supervise pets.
Which pollinators benefit?
Bees (including natives & honey bees), butterflies, moths, and other beneficials use this mix; lacy phacelia and lupines/clarkias are particularly attractive.

great value, great seeds, slow shipping for 2024
Speedy delivery and well packaged for shipping. Plus a fantastic variety of wildflower seeds native to my locale.
Great price for the amount of seeds you get. However the package was open and seeds had spilled out. Thankfully it was still in the mail bag and I could hear them shifting around. But be careful when opening or you might get seeds all over your floor!

I throw this on my hillside every spring and all summer long my daughter picks flowers for mom from it or calls us outside to see a new butterfly.
I mixed the wildflower seeds with sheep fescue and sowed on the central coast of CA on a bare construction site and had wonderful coverage of the slopes and flowers for months. No disappointments if you get this seed mix!

Lots of different flowers and the bloom lasted a couple months, so far, despite little rain this winter
I bought 2 lbs of California wildflower seed mix, and sowed it with the Sheep Fescue seed over 1/2 acre of a new build site. Great germination and variety over time of beautiful flowers.
Used 0.25 lb of this mix to fill in two “mostly sun” flowerbeds in San Francisco. Really great results so far. We sowed the seeds in March, we saw first growth emerging within a week, and now three months later we've got a really nicely varied mix of blooms and buds that look like they will go all summer. Yield has been absolutely terrific—I'm astonished at how filled in everything is.
