Dove Magnet Sunflower — Peredovik Black Oil Food Plot Seed

Plant after your last frost, once soil hits about 60F – late spring to early summer across most of the country. Peredovik matures in roughly 90-100 days, so a June planting has seed heads ripening right as fall dove season opens. Stagger plantings a couple weeks apart to keep fresh seed dropping through the season.

For a classic dove field we suggest a light broadcast rate of about 5 lbs per acre. That plants roughly 2 acres from the 10 lb bag, about 4 acres from 20 lb, and about 10 acres from 50 lb. Seeding lighter gives bigger, seed-heavy heads that hold birds longer; heavier makes a thicker screen.

Both work. Broadcast onto a firm, clean seedbed and lightly cover, or drill in 20-30 inch rows. Either way, plant about 1/2 inch deep. Sunflowers do best in full sun on well-drained ground.

Peredovik grows 4-6 feet tall and reaches seed maturity in about 90-100 days. As the big heads ripen and start to nod, the seed hardens and doves move in to feed.
