Similar to sorghum, sudangrass is a warm-season, annual bunchgrass. It produces large amounts of biomass and acts as an excellent weed suppressor. Very tolerant to hot, dry weather. Can be used for forage, but care must be exercised when grazed because of prussic and hydrocyanic acid content. Native to tropical and subtropical regions of southern Egypt and Sudan, Sudangrass is fast-growing and adapts to a wide range of soils. Can be planted in areas that receive at least 15 inches of annual precipitation.
