Native to southern Asia, foxtail millet is a warm season, cold and drought tolerant, slender, erect annual grass adapted to well-drained soils throughout the temperate USA. Highly palatable and nutritious. Its seeds provide a good source of food for birds and small mammals. Excellent for use as cover, pasture, and wildlife habitat enhancement. Also used as a nurse crop but may outcompete establishing perennials. Foxtail millet thrives in full sun and is drought tolerant. Also used for erosion control.
