Soil Preperation
If desired, test your soil well before seeding and amend per recommendations. Clear the area of weeds, rocks, and debris, then loosen the top 2–3 inches of soil with a rake or tiller. Smooth and level the seedbed so the grass seed will have good contact with the soil. A firm but not compact surface is ideal for even germination.
Seeding With Rice Hulls
Mix your Triblade Elite Fescue Lawn Mix with the included rice hulls before spreading. The rice hulls act as a natural filler, helping distribute seed evenly and improving soil aeration. Spread the mixture across the prepared soil and lightly rake to ensure good seed-to-soil contact without burying the seed too deeply.
Applying a starter fertilizer
After seeding, apply the Organic Seed Starter Fertilizer according to the recommended rate on the bag — not the entire 50 lb bag at once. This provides the nutrients young seedlings need for quick germination and strong root growth. Water in thoroughly so the fertilizer begins working right away.
Watering & First Mow
Keep the seeded area evenly moist, watering lightly several times a day if needed, until seedlings sprout (usually 5–14 days). Once germinated, transition to deeper, less frequent watering—about 1 inch per week—to promote strong root growth. When the grass reaches 2–3 inches, start mowing, removing only the top third of the blade (set mower to ~3 inches). Use sharp mower blades for clean cuts. After the first mowing, continue with regular watering and mowings at the same height.
