It prefers moist, rich soils and partial shade. Its flower heads can grow up to three feet tall and last into the winter, providing aesthetic value to the snow-covered landscape. Can be grown without irrigation in areas receiving at least 14 inches of annual precipitation.

This native cool-season perennial is found throughout higher elevations of the West and has a dense, bunchy growth habit. Arizona fescue can grow up to three feet tall. It produces long stems topped by dense, spike-like seed heads with an attractive bluish color. Blue wildrye tolerates a wide variety of soil types and can handle partial shade. It is fairly drought-tolerant and a great choice for adding height to any ornamental garden. Can be grown without irrigation in areas receiving at least 15 inches of annual precipitation.

A close relative of Canby bluegrass, this cool-season perennial bunchgrass is native to the Intermountain West region. It produces short tufts and rarely grows over one foot tall. It is highly valued for its reclamation use and is able to compete against cheatgrass in wildfire damaged areas. Sandberg bluegrass is drought resistant and tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions. It also provides good forage in the spring. It can be grown without irrigation in areas with at least 8 inches of annual precipitation.

This cool-season perennial bunchgrass is native to the woodlands and foothills of the Intermountain West region. Idaho fescue has a densely tufted growth habit and rarely grows more than three feet tall. Its bluish-green foliage and drought tolerance make it a welcome addition to water-wise landscapes or naturalized areas. It prefers well-drained sandy soils and full to partial sun. It also provides excellent forage for both livestock and wildlife. Idaho fescue can be grown without irrigation in areas receiving at least 12 inches of annual precipitation.
